MTN Nigeria has secured approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the renewal and harmonisation of its 800MHz spectrum licences.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the first 800MHz spectrum licence (Channel 1) has been renewed for 10 years, effective from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2034, while the second 800MHz spectrum band licence (Channel 2) has been extended for an additional four years, aligning its expiration date with Channel 1 on December 31, 2034.

The company’s CEO, Karl Toriola, expressed gratitude for the NCC’s support, emphasising the importance of the 800MHz spectrum in delivering high-quality data services to customers across the country.

Commenting on the transactions, MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola said: “We are pleased with the successful renewal and harmonisation of our 800MHz spectrum licences, which lay a solid foundation for the ongoing delivery of 4G services to our customers.
This enables us to continue to meet the demand for data and is integral to our broader strategy for enhancing connectivity.”
MTN Nigeria is one of Africa’s largest providers of communications services, connecting over 81 million people in communities across the country with 51 per cent market penetration.
