On a recent United Airlines flight from Lagos, Nigeria, to Washington, DC, passengers experienced a terrifying ordeal when the aircraft encountered technical difficulties, leading to a loss of control and failure of navigational tools.
Eko Hot Blog reported that one of the passengers who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the chilling experience, explaining that the plane began to spiral dangerously shortly after passing Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, however as panic spread throughout the cabin, the crew initially announced plans for an emergency landing in Ghana but ultimately managed to regain control of the aircraft and return to Lagos.

With 245 passengers eight flight attendants, and three pilots on board at the time of the incident, the ordeal left its mark on many as six people were reportedly injured, including four passengers and two crew members.
According to the passenger he said, the chaos did not end upon landing. “When we arrived in Lagos, we were left waiting for medical personnel for what seemed like an eternity”.
He continued ” the delay was a stark reminder of how unprepared we are for emergencies in this country,” he said, expressing frustration at the lack of swift response.
The airline responded to the crisis by providing accommodations for the shaken passengers who were obviously traumatize at a hotel near the airport.

However, many remain devastated by the near-death experience. “We are thankful to God for sparing our lives during such a terrifying event.
But the poor emergency response on the ground in Nigeria was just as frightening as the incident itself. It’s a sad reflection of our system,” the passenger added.

The flight, which was canceled following the incident, is under investigation by the airline to address the technical issues that led to the midair emergency. Passengers are now waiting for updates on when they can resume their journeys safely.

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Michael Achimugu said that the regulatory authority is investigating the cause of the incident and examining the aircraft Flight Data Recorder (FDR) to ascertain exactly what happened.
He noted that the authority is not going to rely on the feedback from the airline or the passenger but facts from the investigation and promised NCAA would issue a statement after the investigation.
