The only notable absence was that of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Meranda and the lawmakers posed for photographs, symbolizing their collective backing for her role as Speaker.
In a celebratory atmosphere, the lawmakers voiced their praise for Meranda’s leadership, chanting in unison, “Madam, continue your work; your work is appealing to us. You are the Speaker, you are the Speaker, you are the Speaker.” The support continued with chants urging her to “speak for Lagos” and continue her good work, before they followed her to her official office.
There, intense prayers were offered, marking the beginning of her tenure in the legislative leadership.
This significant moment in the Assembly comes just days after former Speaker Obasa voiced his concerns about his removal, calling it unconstitutional and accusing the process of lacking due procedure.

His claims have stirred a degree of controversy surrounding the leadership transition, but Meranda’s smooth assumption of office signifies a fresh chapter for the Assembly.
As Meranda settled into her new role, heightened security measures were put in place around the Lagos State House of Assembly to ensure peace and order during the plenary sessions.
A notice signed by Omotayo Adekemi on behalf of Acting Clerk Taiwo Ottun outlined new security protocols for access to the Assembly. All staff members and legislative aides are now required to present valid identity cards to gain entry, with anyone without an ID being denied access.

The increased security measures have also extended beyond the Assembly’s premises. The Lagos State Police Command has promised to maintain public order in the state, with State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olawale, assuring citizens that while the police have no role within the Assembly itself, they will work to ensure calm outside and across Lagos.
This peaceful transition of leadership in the Lagos State House of Assembly has been met with optimism, as Meranda begins her tenure amidst strong backing from her colleagues and a focus on maintaining order and security during the legislative process.
