A significant new deep sea port project in Bayelsa State is gaining momentum, as federal officials recently convened to propel plans for the $3 billion facility.

The project is a collaborative endeavor between the Bayelsa State government, federal authorities, and private investors, operating within a public-private partnership framework.
This initiative aims to alleviate congestion at Nigeria’s existing ports while bolstering maritime infrastructure and promoting socioeconomic development in the area.
“This port will make Bayelsa State a key transport hub for both northeastern and southeastern Nigeria,” said Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. A team from his ministry is now in Bayelsa to work with state officials on getting the project started.
The Agge deep sea port project is part of a larger initiative to improve Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure.
Similar projects are underway in various locations, such as Badagry, Ondo, Ibom, and Bonny. Additionally, the government recently launched a new inland dry port in Ogun State.
