In a historic move, the Federal Government has officially adopted the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, transforming it into Nigeria’s first federally owned university of education, Eko Hot Blog reports.
TASUED, established by the Ogun State Government in 2005, was named in honor of renowned activist and educationist, Dr. Tai Solarin, founder of Mayflower School in Ikenne.

President Bola Tinubu approved the adoption on Friday, expressing gratitude to the Ogun State Government for their willingness to transfer ownership of the esteemed educational institution.
As a result, TASUED will become the first federally owned tertiary institution in Ogun East senatorial district, offering a well-developed infrastructure and academic program that requires minimal federal investment.

“It is an opportunity for the Federal Government to honour Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who began the revolutionary free education programme in Western Nigeria and Dr Tai Solarin, who spent most of his life educating our children and impacting patriotic and leadership lessons in them at Mayflower School in Ikenne”, President Tinubu said.
“It is also in honour of the Awujale of Ijebuland, who played a critical role in preventing the university’s closure in 2012, just seven years after its establishment,” he added.
Highlighting the contributions of notable figures from Ogun State’s Eastern Senatorial District, President Tinubu commended TASUED’s transition into a Federal University of Education.
