U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly set to begin dismantling the Department of Education through executive orders, fulfilling a key campaign promise despite lacking congressional approval to abolish the department outright.
While the White House has confirmed Trump will sign a series of executive orders on Tuesday, it has not disclosed specific details.

However, multiple U.S. media outlets report that these directives will target the federal education agency, limiting its power and shifting responsibilities to individual states.
Trump has long criticized the Department of Education for excessive federal spending and what he describes as a liberal agenda in schools.
During his 2024 campaign, he pledged to eliminate the department, arguing that education decisions should be made at the state level.
The latest reports come amid a broader effort to restructure the federal government, spearheaded by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.

Musk’s newly formed “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) has already begun auditing the education department’s operations, according to The Washington Post.
Referencing the report on his social media platform, X, Musk wrote: “Reagan tried to abolish the Education Department but failed. President @realDonaldTrump will succeed.”
Trump’s actions follow a series of controversial executive orders targeting race, gender, and free speech policies on college campuses.
His administration has also nominated Linda McMahon, former WWE CEO, to lead the Department of Education, an appointment widely seen as a step toward scaling back the department’s influence.

McMahon and her husband, WWE promoter Vince McMahon, have a long history with Trump, including a famous staged wrestling match where Trump body-slammed Vince and shaved his head in a dramatic live event.
The move to weaken the Department of Education is expected to spark strong opposition from Democrats and education advocates, who argue that federal oversight is essential to maintaining national education standards and protecting marginalized students.
With Congress unlikely to approve a full abolition, Trump’s strategy appears to focus on rendering the department ineffective from within.

His administration is expected to cut funding, reallocate resources, and shift decision-making authority to state governments.
As Trump continues his sweeping efforts to reshape the U.S. government, the fate of the Department of Education remains uncertain, setting the stage for intense legal and political battles in the months ahead.
