Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has urged immediate sanctions against South African politician Julius Malema over a controversial speech in which he allegedly incited violence against white people.
In a viral video, Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), declared, “We are cutting the throat of whiteness,” while justifying his party’s removal of former Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip simply because he was white.

Reacting on social media, Musk tweeted, “Immediate sanctions for Malema and declaration of him as an international criminal!” He also questioned South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, asking, “Why do you allow this? This is a major political party in the South African parliament, and their leader is calling for genocide of white people.”

Musk’s comments have intensified diplomatic tensions between South Africa and the U.S., as former President Donald Trump had already frozen aid to the country over concerns about land expropriation policies.
South African officials, however, have denied receiving U.S. funding outside of HIV/AIDS assistance under PEPFAR.
Musk, who currently serves in the U.S. government under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been vocal about South African affairs, further fueling the debate.

While Malema has previously dismissed criticism of his rhetoric, calling it political resistance, Musk’s intervention has sparked global reactions, with many calling for action against incitement to violence.
As tensions rise, South African authorities have yet to officially respond to Musk’s demand for sanctions.
