Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, revealed plans to set up ranching facilities aimed at enhancing the meat processing sector within the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement came during a courtesy visit by Mr. Timothee Witkowski, Head of International Projects of SEMMARIS, and Ms. Sonia Darraco, Regional Agriculture Counsellor of the French Embassy, at the governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun highlighted that the proposed ranch facilities would provide a comprehensive approach to meat production, enabling the state to rear, fatten, slaughter, and process meat in the most hygienic manner for human consumption.
He said: “We have an immediate plan to set up ranching facilities here in Ogun State where we will rear cattle, fatten them, slaughter, and process them properly.
“We are also going to do piggery as well. Already, we have a lot of poultry, but we will get them organized.”

The governor commended SEMMARIS for its positive impact on agriculture, food distribution, and logistics, praising the Rungis Farmers’ Market for making affordable food accessible to the French population.
Abiodun highlighted Ogun State’s extensive road networks, connecting the state to other parts of Nigeria, as well as its rich natural resources, including limestone deposits and fertile land suitable for cultivating cocoa, palm oil, and cotton.
Recalling a previous meeting in France, the governor applauded the strong business ties and friendship between Nigeria and France. He mentioned President Bola Tinubu’s interest in the outcome of the meeting, emphasizing the government’s support for international collaborations.
Governor Abiodun assured SEMMARIS of his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary incentives for the company’s establishment in Ogun State.

He added that the collaboration would benefit local farmers by offering extension services and serving as an off-taker for their produce, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the state’s agricultural sector.
In his remarks, Mr. Witkowski said his mission in the state is to be a strategic partner by working as a team to modernize agricultural projects as well as provide technical services in the state.
“Starting with Ogun State is a good idea because of the potential and the strategic location of the state. There is a lot of land available, and the state government has a strong vision for the region,” he said.
He said the project, when operational, would provide job opportunities, ensure food security, and improve the agricultural value chain.

Also speaking, the Regional Agriculture Counsellor of the French Embassy, Sonia Darraco, said the company is in the state to carry out a feasibility study to identify potential business opportunities for investment, assuring that her home country is ready to support the company in its mission.
