The National Examinations Council (NECO) has approved more schools in Equatorial Guinea to hold the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
According to Azeez Sani, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, this decision is part of efforts to expand quality education and examinations beyond Nigeria.

In a statement on Wednesday, Sani said the newly approved schools are in Bata, the largest city in Equatorial Guinea. A team from NECO visited these schools to check their classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and other facilities to ensure they met the required standards.
After a detailed inspection, the schools were given full approval to conduct SSCE and BECE exams.
“The approval of more schools outside Nigeria shows NECO’s commitment to quality education and examinations beyond the country. With its growing international presence, NECO is becoming a top examination body in Africa, helping students from Nigeria and other countries benefit from its expertise,” the statement said.

NECO exams are now taken by students in Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia.
