A tragic incident occurred in Benin City, Edo State, when a communication mast collapsed, resulting in the death of a middle-aged man.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident took place on Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Eyewitnesses reported that the mast fell on the man, identified as Pius Etim, during a strong gust of wind preceding a downpour.

The storm and its aftermath disrupted a praise night planned for the 100 days in office celebration of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.

Governor Okpebholo expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing it as “unfortunate, sad, and painful.” In a statement released on Friday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, conveyed the Governor’s condolences:
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a young man, Pius Etim, during the intense rainfall and collapse of a mast at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.”
The Governor extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased:
“On behalf of the people of Edo State, I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Pius Etim. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this period of grief.”
Governor Okpebholo also criticized the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly celebrating the death of Pius Etim. He stated that such behavior reflects a lack of empathy and a disconnect from the people.
