Pop icon Madonna has reignited her criticism of former U.S. President Donald Trump, condemning his recent statement in which he referred to himself as “the King.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that Trump made the declaration in a social media post on Wednesday while celebrating his role in halting New York’s controversial congestion pricing plan, which proposed a $9 fee for cars entering central Manhattan.

His message ended with, “LONG LIVE THE KING,” and was later reposted by the White House with an image of Trump wearing a diamond-studded crown.
Reacting to the post, Madonna took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, expressing her disapproval. “I thought this country was built by Europeans escaping the rule of a King to establish a New World governed by the people,” she wrote. “Currently, we have a president who calls himself our King. If this is a joke, I’m not laughing.”

Madonna, often referred to as the “Queen of Pop,” has been a vocal critic of Trump. She previously participated in anti-Trump protests after his inauguration and has spoken out against his administration’s policies, particularly regarding LGBTQ rights.
Trump’s regal tone has drawn criticism from opponents, especially following his claim in his inaugural address that he was “saved by God to make America great again” after surviving an assassination attempt in July.

Meanwhile, legal battles continue over New York’s congestion charge. Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul announced that lawyers have taken steps to challenge the federal order halting the plan.
However, Trump celebrated the decision, declaring on his Truth Social platform, “CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!”
