City started brightly but were undone in the 14th minute when Mohamed Salah capitalized on a well-worked corner routine, scoring his 30th goal of the season.
Dominik Szoboszlai, who had assisted Salah’s goal, doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 37th minute after being set up by the Egyptian. Despite City’s efforts to stage a comeback, Liverpool controlled the game efficiently, denying their hosts any clear chances in the second half.
With only one league defeat all season, Liverpool’s performance highlighted their dominance. Szoboszlai’s energetic midfield display, Salah’s clinical finishing, and Virgil van Dijk’s leadership at the back ensured they never looked in danger of dropping points.
For Manchester City, injuries to key players like Rodri, John Stones, and Erling Haaland were evident as they struggled to impose themselves.
The defeat follows their recent Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid, capping a difficult week for Pep Guardiola’s side.
As the rain poured down on the Etihad, Guardiola could only watch as his side fell short once again.
The substitutions, including Kevin De Bruyne’s 67th-minute exit to a standing ovation, hinted at a changing of the guard in City’s squad.
