Tragedy struck in Delta State as a boat accident on the Warri River claimed the lives of five passengers, with 20 others still missing.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred on Monday evening in Warri South Local Government Area when boats carrying passengers returning from a burial ceremony collided.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that five people drowned, while six others were rescued and hospitalized.

Eyewitnesses blamed the crash on poor visibility, noting that many passengers were not wearing life jackets. Emmanuel Okoro, a resident who witnessed the accident, described the scene as chaotic.
“People were screaming for help. Some managed to swim to safety, but many others disappeared beneath the water,” Okoro recounted.
