Confusion erupted at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday as ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa arrived at the complex with heavily armed police officers and civil defence personnel, allegedly intending to reclaim his position.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13 by 32 out of 40 Assembly members, arrived at the Assembly complex around 11:30 AM.

His sudden presence, coupled with the withdrawal of security details from incumbent Speaker Mojisola Meranda earlier in the day, has heightened tensions within the legislative arm.
Reports indicate that despite the Assembly being on an indefinite recess, the doors to the Speaker’s office were forcibly opened. The situation has thrown the Assembly into disarray, particularly in Meranda’s absence.

Sources revealed that earlier on Thursday, security personnel assigned to Speaker Meranda, including police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), were withdrawn without explanation.
An aide to the Speaker, speaking anonymously, described the situation as alarming, leaving Meranda “vulnerable to threats amid the ongoing speakership crisis.”
The aide further called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, to intervene urgently to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order.

Tensions had already escalated the previous day when the former Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko, who was suspended alongside Obasa, attempted to resume duty.
Onafeko reportedly arrived at the complex around 9 AM with his lawyer, two security personnel, and unidentified DSS operatives. However, he was turned away by security staff, and a viral video showed Assembly workers booing him as he left.
In response, the Lagos Assembly’s Chief Security Officer, Kushoro Idowu, condemned the development, calling for calm and order.
