EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a judgment that lasted one hour and thirty-six minutes, Justice Emmanuel Akomaye, who led a five-man panel, ruled that Rivers State must resolve its Assembly dispute before accessing federal funds.
The court dismissed a cross-appeal by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which sought to challenge the legitimacy of the House of Assembly under Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
The ruling affirmed Amaewhule as the rightful Speaker and directed him to reconvene the Assembly immediately alongside other elected members. The verdict intensifies the ongoing political tension in Rivers, where a leadership struggle has left the state’s legislature in limbo.

The Supreme Court emphasized that until a properly constituted House of Assembly is in place, the Rivers State Government will not receive federal allocations.
