Chief Mrs. Ebun Oyagbola, a former Minister of National Planning and Nigeria’s first female cabinet minister, has died at the age of 93.

The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, confirmed her passing and described it as a great loss to Yewaland and Nigeria.
He praised her contributions to politics, diplomacy, and the development of her community, including her role in the construction of the Obele-Ilaro-Papalanto-Sagamu Road.
Born in 1932 in Ogun State, Chief Oyagbola made history in 1979 as the first woman to serve as a cabinet minister in Nigeria under President Shehu Shagari. She later became Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, with responsibilities in Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
In 2021, Oba Olugbenle honored her with the title of the first Iyalode of Yewaland for her leadership and service. She also led the Nigerian chapter of Attitudinal Healing International, a group focused on social change.
