Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, has spent her first night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following an interrogation over an alleged ₦138.4 million fraud.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that EFCC operatives questioned Ohanenye on Thursday regarding allegations of misappropriation, procurement violations, and diversion of public funds related to the disbursement of the ministry’s 2023 budget allocation.

A senior EFCC source confirmed to Punch that the former minister arrived at the commission’s headquarters at 11 a.m. on Thursday, where she underwent intense questioning.
“Investigators are probing her alleged involvement in the misappropriation, procurement violations, and diversion of public funds totaling ₦138,413,253.89. She remains in custody as interrogations continue,” the source stated.
Further investigations reportedly revealed that funds allocated for the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative were diverted.

Ohanenye was among five ministers dismissed in October 2024 following the 19th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House.
After her removal, President Bola Tinubu appointed Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, the former Minister of State for Police Affairs, as her successor.
