A member of the National Moonsighting Committee, Simwal, confirmed the development in a tweet on Saturday night, stating that a positive sighting report had been received.
“I just had a conversation with a committee member at the palace who confirmed there is a positive sighting report, and His Eminence will issue an announcement soon,” the tweet read.
The sighting comes just hours after Saudi Arabia announced the appearance of the new moon and declared Sunday as Eid-el-Fitr, marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal.

The official announcement from the Sultanate is expected to confirm the exact day for the Eid celebrations in Nigeria, aligning with the global Islamic community in observing the end of the holy month.
Eid-el-Fitr, a significant Islamic festival, marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims worldwide. The occasion is typically celebrated with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
With the official declaration imminent, Nigerian Muslims are now preparing to celebrate Eid, a time of joy, gratitude, and communal bonding.
