Despite a ransom payment made by Tsiga’s family, the kidnappers continued to hold him for several weeks, with reports suggesting that the actual amount paid for his release was significantly higher than the previously reported N60 million.
According to a close family member, after receiving the ransom, the kidnappers remained silent for a week before finally contacting the family and allowing Tsiga to speak with them on the phone.

“The money was taken to them and it was only after one week, that was on Tuesday March 11, that they called and we heard his voice,” the source revealed.
He added that the kidnappers attempted to extort more money from them but wasn’t given.
“Nothing was actually added and as we speak they are in Zamfara state from where they will take the general to Abuja,” the source said.
