Two security guards, Okoli Alfred, 24, and Isaiah Amos, 23, have found themselves in legal trouble after thieves stole items worth N845,000 from the popular Food City Eatery in Lagos State, where they were employed.
The management of the eatery subsequently handed them over to the Ikotun Division Police due to their failure to prevent the theft while on duty.

The incident occurred between April 27 and 28, 2025, at Food City Eatery, located along Ikotun-Idimu Road, Ikotun, Lagos. Alfred and Amos, who were responsible for safeguarding the premises, were on duty when 700 liters of diesel, valued at N750,000, and a 75 Amps motor battery, worth N95,000, went missing.
Following the investigation, the police found the two security guards culpable for the theft and subsequently charged them at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court.
The charges read:
“That you, Okolie Alfred ‘m’, Isaiah Amos ‘m’, and others still at large, between 27th and 28th April, 2025, at Food City Eatery, along Ikotun Idimu Road, Ikotun. Lagos, In the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Okolie Alfred ‘m’, Isaiah Amos ‘m’ and others stil at Large, in same period and place, in the aforesaid magisterial District, did fail to use all reasonable means to prevent the commission of a crime as security guards and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 410, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Okoli Alfred ‘m’, Isaiah Amos ‘m’ on same period and place, in the aforesaid magisterial District, did steal 700 litres of diesel valued Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N750, 000.00) and One 75 Amps motor battery valued Ninety Five Thousand Naira (N95, 000, 00), Total amount of Property Stolen is Eight Hundred and Forty Five Thousand Naira (N845, 000.00). Property of Food City Eatry and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 punishable under Section 287(7), of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, requested that the Court set a hearing date. This would allow the Police an opportunity to present evidence demonstrating the defendants’ alleged involvement.
Presiding Magistrate T.A. Popoola granted bail to Alfred and Amos in the amount of N200,000, with two sureties required to provide a similar sum.
The sureties must also present evidence of their means of livelihood and tax payment, with their addresses subject to verification by the Court.
The case has been adjourned until June 16, 2025, for further proceedings. In the meantime, the defendants will be remanded at the correctional center in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
