Lagos Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy on Underage Gambling

- Lagos vows to combat underage gambling.

The Lagos State government has reiterated its strong stance against underage gambling, vowing to enforce stricter regulations to curb the growing menace.
During a press conference with key stakeholders in the gaming sector, the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) reaffirmed its commitment to protecting minors from the dangers of gambling.

Mr. Basil Are, the Chief Executive Officer of LSLGA and Chairman of the Federation of State Gaming Regulators of Nigeria, emphasized that preventing underage gambling remains a top priority for both the authority and the state government.
Are stressed that regulatory measures would be strictly enforced to ensure that gambling operators comply with existing laws.
He also urged gaming companies to adopt stronger age verification processes to prevent minors from accessing gambling platforms.
“Our zero-tolerance policy remains firm. The Lagos State government will continue to implement strict measures to protect our children from the negative impacts of gambling,” he stated.
Beyond enforcement, Are also highlighted the significance of public awareness campaigns in educating parents, schools, and communities about the risks associated with underage gambling.
In addition, he announced the upcoming Africa Gaming Expo (AGE) Lagos 2025, which will take place from February 25 to 27 at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites.
