The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has praised the Governor of North Carolina, United States, Josh Stein, for officially declaring June 14 as Igbo Day, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Dabiri-Erewa said the governor deserved commendation for acknowledging the valuable contributions of Nigerians of Igbo descent living in his state.

According to a proclamation published on the official website of the North Carolina government on June 12, Governor Stein highlighted the rich history and integration of the Igbo community as worthy of recognition.
In response to the announcement on Wednesday, Dabiri-Erewa, through a statement issued by the Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur Rahman Balogun, also extended her appreciation to the Igbo community in North Carolina.
“Such recognition deserves accolades on the Governor for recognising deep-rooted presence and significant contributions of the Igbo community within and across the state,” the statement read.”

She noted that the recognition reflected the community’s deep roots and impactful contributions to the state and beyond.
The NiDCOM chair encouraged other Nigerians living abroad to keep making meaningful contributions to the development of their local communities.
