The Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate reopening of the Oko Oba Abattoir in Agege after the operators met the required sanitation and hygiene standards.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab made the announcement in a statement shared on his official X account on Friday night.

He noted that the abattoir operators have now complied with the basic requirements for running such facilities in the state.
These regulations had previously been ignored, which led to the initial closure.
He added that one of the conditions for reopening is that officials from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources will carry out monthly inspections of the abattoir to ensure continued compliance.

Wahab urged the operators to avoid unhygienic practices, poor waste management, and unsafe handling of animal products in the course of their operations.
Following the closure of the facility on June 19, 2025, Wahab had emphasized that the state government would not accept environmental abuse or unhygienic conditions, warning that abattoir operators must follow all environmental laws.
He reminded the public that there are specific regulations for abattoir operations in the state, including the proper treatment of wastewater and blood from meat processing, which must not be discharged into public drains.
