EKO HOT BLOG reports that the operation took place at Joyous Hotel, which was reportedly hosting dozens of suspected cybercriminals before the EFCC stormed the premises.
Confirming the development, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said the arrests were made based on credible intelligence about the suspects’ involvement in internet-related crimes.
“The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence on their alleged involvement in cybercrime activities,” Oyewale stated.
Items recovered during the raid included one rifle, 86 mobile phones, and three motorcycles, all believed to have been used in connection with the suspected criminal activities.
The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has consistently raised concerns about the rising activities of cybercriminals, warning that their operations have severely dented Nigeria’s international reputation. Olukoyede has repeatedly lamented that innocent Nigerians travelling or doing business abroad often face suspicion and harassment due to the damaging impact of internet fraud.
The latest arrests are part of the EFCC’s ongoing nationwide crackdown on cybercrime. In recent months, the agency has intensified its operations to track, arrest, and prosecute individuals involved in internet fraud schemes.
The EFCC has also reiterated its commitment to restoring Nigeria’s image by tackling cybercrime networks aggressively.
Oyewale confirmed that the arrested suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
