EKO HOT BLOG reports that Jota, 28, and his younger brother, Andre Silva, 26, lost their lives in a devastating car accident in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025. Reports indicate that the siblings were travelling in Jota’s Lamborghini on the A-52 highway near the town of Cernadilla, close to Zamora in northwestern Spain, when the vehicle’s tyre suddenly burst.
The tyre failure caused the supercar to veer off the expressway before bursting into flames. According to eyewitness footage, the Lamborghini was completely engulfed by fire, leaving behind only the wheels and the number plate, which was later used to identify the victims.
The fire reportedly spread so quickly that rescue teams could not reach the scene in time. Both Jota and his brother, who was also a footballer, were burned beyond recognition by the time emergency responders arrived.
The fatal crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday while Jota was driving to catch a boat heading to England. He had planned to reunite with his Liverpool teammates as the club prepared to resume pre-season training on Monday. Jota reportedly avoided air travel on his doctor’s advice following recent lung surgery.
Since the announcement of his death, tributes have continued to pour in from the global football community. However, his wife, Rute Cardoso, who recently married Jota and is the mother of their three children, has yet to issue a public statement.
The A-52 road, where the accident occurred, has a reputation for being dangerous. In 2020 alone, over 15,000 speeding fines were recorded on the route. Spanish road safety authorities have previously campaigned to caution drivers about the dangers of the highway.
A recent survey by Spain’s Organisation of Users and Consumers listed the A-52 as one of the most hazardous roads in the country, citing poor road conditions and a lack of adequate safety barriers.
