EKO HOT BLOG reports that in an emotional post shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, the 37-year-old winger announced his decision to return to his boyhood club, Rosario Central, in Argentina, after spending 18 years playing at the highest level in Europe.
Di María began his European adventure in 2007 when Portuguese club Benfica signed him from Rosario Central for €8 million. His talent quickly caught the attention of top clubs, and in 2010, Real Madrid secured his services for €33 million.
His impressive performance at Real Madrid led to a high-profile transfer to Manchester United in 2014 for more than double his previous fee. However, his time in England was short-lived as he struggled to settle and moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2015 for €63 million.
The Argentine winger went on to enjoy a successful spell at PSG before joining Juventus in 2022. After one season in Italy, Di María returned to Benfica, where he played for two more seasons before sealing his return to Rosario Central on July 1, 2025.
Confirming his decision, Di María wrote, “Today, it’s time to return home, my European career is over. After 18 years in Europe, it’s time to go home. Grateful to Benfica, Real Madrid, Man Utd, PSG, and Juventus. Thanks for the memories, lessons, and friendships. I leave fulfilled and proud. Farewell, Europe, what a journey it’s been.”

Throughout his career in Europe, Di María won an impressive 30 major trophies, including five Ligue 1 titles, one Portuguese League title, and one Spanish LaLiga crown.
