EKO HOT BLOG reports that the controversial bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” passed the House of Representatives by a slim margin of 218 to 214 on Thursday. The final approval came after House Speaker Mike Johnson worked overnight to rally Republican lawmakers, many of whom had initially raised concerns over the bill’s potential impact on the national debt and sweeping cuts to health and welfare programs.
Trump celebrated the victory on social media, describing the legislation as “one of the most consequential Bills ever,” adding, “The USA is the ‘HOTTEST’ Country in the World, by far!!!”
The bill, which is now set to be signed into law on the July 4th Independence Day holiday, fulfills several of Trump’s key campaign promises. It significantly boosts military spending, allocates substantial funding for a large-scale migrant deportation campaign, and commits $4.5 trillion to extend tax cuts introduced during his first term.
However, the bill is projected to add an estimated $3.4 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade. It also implements deep cuts to Medicaid, the federal health insurance program for low-income Americans, and slashes the food assistance program. Analysts warn that as many as 17 million people could lose health coverage, and several rural hospitals may be forced to shut down.
Despite pushback from moderate Republicans concerned about the political cost of the cuts, fiscal conservatives argued the bill failed to meet promised spending reductions. Trump personally lobbied lawmakers in recent weeks, holding multiple meetings and phone calls to secure enough votes for the bill’s passage.
Democrats strongly opposed the bill, accusing Trump of engineering a massive redistribution of wealth from the poorest Americans to the wealthiest. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries led the charge against the legislation, speaking for nearly nine hours to delay the vote. He condemned the bill as a “disgusting abomination” that would harm millions of ordinary Americans.
Trump’s latest legislative success adds to a string of recent victories, including a Supreme Court decision that limits the power of individual judges to block executive actions and a ceasefire between Israel and Iran following US airstrikes.
The bill’s additional military and border security funding will be partially financed by eliminating subsidies for clean energy and electric vehicles — a move that has sparked a public fallout between Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, one of his former allies.
Democrats are now banking on public backlash against the bill to help them regain control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections.
