EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, Obi not only reiterated his belief in a single-term presidency but also officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
“I don’t need a day more than four years. I will show the direction of good governance,” Obi stated firmly, emphasising that leadership should be about results, not tenure extensions.
The former Anambra State governor criticised the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of causing significant damage within two years of taking office.
“In just two years, maximum damage has been done. But two years is also enough to turn things around. People want to see a president that cares and shows compassion,” Obi said.
Obi stressed that Nigerians are now yearning for practical solutions and responsive leadership, adding that his approach would be focused on measurable progress.
Confirming his 2027 ambition, Obi said, “I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it.”
When asked whether he was considering running as a vice-presidential candidate alongside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, Obi dismissed the speculation.
“Nobody has discussed that with me,” he said, distancing himself from any possible alliance talks at this stage.
