“President Tinubu holds traditional rulers in the highest regard. He is one of you, and he holds you in esteem because you represent our cultural legacy and maintain close ties with the people,” Shettima said.
The vice president recalled that during a previous visit to Akure, traditional leaders had expressed strong support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s re-election bid. Following that endorsement, Aiyedatiwa won in all 18 local government areas of the state, a result Shettima attributed in part to the influence and unity of the royal fathers.
He assured the monarchs that their requests would be conveyed to the president and emphasized Tinubu’s longstanding relationship with the traditional institution, as reflected in the chieftaincy titles conferred on him across Nigeria.
Shettima praised the president’s bold economic decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidies and other reforms aimed at reviving the economy.
He acknowledged the current hardships facing many Nigerians but expressed confidence that the administration’s infrastructure and economic policies would yield positive results soon.
Calling President Tinubu a “game changer,” Shettima appealed to citizens to continue supporting the administration’s transformation agenda.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who hosted the event, thanked the vice president for engaging directly with the traditional rulers.
He also expressed gratitude to the monarchs for backing his administration during the last gubernatorial election and pledged to continue involving them in the state’s governance.

The Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, the Olowo of Owo, commended Tinubu’s policies and said the current administration has already started to make a meaningful impact.
He noted the progress in infrastructure and security, and highlighted the vice president’s effort to consult with traditional rulers as a sign of inclusive governance.
Oba Ogunoye also praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritizing traditional institutions by ensuring regular allowances and providing a functional secretariat for the council of obas in the state.
He assured the gathering that the traditional rulers would continue to support President Tinubu’s administration.
Dignitaries at the meeting included Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji; Ondo State Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade; and the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo.
