During the operation, officers recovered 24 large bags containing 681 pouches of Canadian Loud, a highly potent strain of cannabis, with a total weight of 414.2 kilograms.
The arrest followed reliable intelligence indicating that Emami intended to transport the drugs to Lekki for distribution across Lagos and other parts of the country.
In a separate case, a Lagos-based businessman, Ajah Johnson Uchenna, his wife Rosemary Uchenna, their daughters Stella and Ngozi Uchenna, and a family friend, Okoro Elijah, were arrested for running a major illegal drug distribution network.
The couple was initially detained by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday, June 13, in the Ojo area and later handed over to the NDLEA along with 277.5 kilograms of cannabis (skunk).
Further investigation led the NDLEA to raid the couple’s home and a nearby storage facility on Tuesday, July 1, where they discovered an additional 231 kilograms of cannabis.
During the second raid, three people—daughters Ngozi and Blessing Uchenna, and family friend Elijah—were arrested while allegedly managing the illegal operation in the absence of the detained couple.
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, NDLEA operatives on Wednesday, July 2, intercepted a suspected drug courier, Aburemi Hysent, a frequent traveler believed to be involved in trafficking between Nigeria and Italy. He was caught with 7,660 tramadol tablets (225mg and 200mg) hidden in food items. Hysent confessed he was to be paid €800 to deliver the drugs in Italy.
In another operation at MMIA on Friday, July 4, NDLEA officials seized 52 suspected counterfeit travelers’ cheques valued at AUD 17.7 million. The cheques were concealed in children’s books and destined for Malaysia via Istanbul on a Turkish Airlines flight.
A freight agent, Bolarinwa Saheed, was arrested and will be transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.

At the Seme border in Badagry, NDLEA agents recovered 718 large parcels of skunk, weighing 359 kilograms, from a store in the Baba Pupa area on Saturday, July 5. Meanwhile, on the Okene to Lokoja highway, officers intercepted 10,000 tramadol tablets (225mg), co codamol, and 1.050 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis strain.
Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of three suspected owners of the intercepted shipments—Chinedu Odo, Samuel Ogbonna, and Kingsley Ugaji—at Jabi Park in Abuja.
Commending the efforts of the operatives, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), praised commands across the country for maintaining a strong focus on both reducing drug supply and addressing drug demand in the agency’s ongoing fight against narcotics.
