EKO HOT BLOG reports that Waziri announced his resignation on Monday at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State. He officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the gathering.
Speaking to party members and supporters at the ward centre, Waziri explained that his decision to leave the PDP was not made in haste but was driven by what he described as the “exigencies of the moment” and the urgent need to reposition the country towards true democratic governance.
“I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” Waziri stated.
He noted that the PDP constitution requires that resignations be formalized at the ward level, which was why he visited the Dogo Tebo Centre to complete the process. “The PDP constitution demands that I come to my ward centre to formalise this action,” he said.
Waziri, who was instrumental in the founding of the PDP in 1998, described his resignation as “a difficult but necessary step.” He criticised the current leadership of the party, accusing them of abandoning the principles of credible opposition and good governance.
He called on his political allies, whom he referred to as “my boys,” to join him in the ADC as he seeks to build a political movement focused on restoring democratic values and delivering effective governance to Nigerians.
“We must build a movement that restores democratic values and delivers good governance. It’s time to try something different for the sake of the country,” Waziri said.

In a surprising development, the PDP Ward Chairman, represented by Muhammad Bomai, also announced his resignation from the party shortly after accepting Waziri’s departure.
“On behalf of the party, we accept his resignation with a heavy heart. Waziri has been an institution within the PDP, and we will feel his absence deeply,” Bomai said while returning Waziri’s membership card.
