The announcement was contained in a statement by Alao Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. According to him, the decision has been warmly received by retired officers who have long pushed for improved welfare after service.

The statement noted that many of the beneficiaries described the approval as a long-awaited relief, following years of advocacy over poor retirement packages and delays in entitlements under previous administrations.
The development was disclosed in Abuja on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by a delegation of retired senior officers to the Minister of Interior.
During the visit, the retired officers expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, saying the new policy would greatly improve their welfare and restore dignity to life after service.
The move is part of broader reforms by the Tinubu administration targeted at strengthening welfare systems for security and paramilitary personnel, especially in response to repeated concerns over post-retirement conditions in recent years.
