At least five people were reportedly killed between Monday and Tuesday in Benin City, Edo State, following a resurgence of violence linked to a rivalry between suspected members of the Maphite and Black Axe cult groups.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the killings occurred at multiple locations across the city, sparking fear among residents as tensions rise due to the ongoing conflict.

Community members identified the deceased as Lucky Okotie, Yoyin, George, Lucky, and Abel.
One of the victims, George, a mechanic, was said to have been shot in front of his workshop on Oza Street, off Sakponba Road, on Monday evening. That same evening, Yoyin was reportedly killed by suspected rival cult members near Oroghene Street, off Siluko Road.
Another person was said to have been killed around 7:30 p.m. along Wire Road, while a separate daylight killing occurred on Tuesday near Ewah Road.
A resident, Ibrahim, said that one of the victims, identified as Lucky, was attacked inside his home in the presence of his family after gunmen stormed his residence on 3rd East Circular Road at about 6 p.m. on Monday.
Another eyewitness said that Lucky Okotie was shot near the 2nd West area after stepping out to buy roasted corn. He reportedly died due to a delay in getting medical help, as the vehicle transporting him to the hospital was stuck in traffic.

A fifth victim, whose identity had not been confirmed at the time of reporting, was also killed in broad daylight on Monday near Textile Mill Road.
Attempts to get an official response from the Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, did not respond to calls or messages.
However, a senior police officer, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that security forces are actively tracking those responsible for the violence and working to restore peace in the affected areas.
