The All Igbo Youth Forum (AIYF), led by Chief Chinedum Obilor, has issued a bold ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu, demanding the immediate release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The group says Tinubu’s chances of securing massive votes from the South-East in the 2027 presidential election hinge on meeting this demand.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking during the forum’s executive meeting in Umuahia, Abia State on Tuesday, Obilor stated that failure to release Kanu within two months would prompt the mobilisation of over one million Igbo youths to adopt a political position ahead of the next general election.
Obilor questioned why Kanu remained in detention while other agitators like Sunday Igboho had regained their freedom, warning that continued neglect of Kanu’s case would deepen political resentment in the region.
“If the President releases Kanu, I will mobilise support for him from Igbo youths. But if he refuses, he will also hear from us at the ballot,” Obilor said.
He blamed South-East politicians for their silence, accusing them of prioritising personal interests over regional concerns. He praised only one federal lawmaker, Hon. Obi Aguocha, for standing by Kanu.
The youth leader also claimed that the APC’s poor performance in the South-East during the 2023 elections was due to the federal government’s refusal to free Kanu.
Obilor added, “This is all we ask of President Tinubu. No rice, no money. If he does it, he’ll have our support in 2027. If he fails, we’ll seek leaders who are willing to release Kanu.”
