Sam Omatseye, a known ally of President Bola Tinubu and chairman of The Nation editorial board, has slammed former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he “did more for cows than Nigerians.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that in his article titled Anticlimax, published shortly after Buhari’s death in London, Omatseye described the late ex-president as a disappointment who governed with hypocrisy and self-interest.

He said Buhari cared more for cattle than for human life and lacked empathy. “He did less for man than cow,” Omatseye wrote, calling his regime one of the country’s worst.

Omatseye accused Buhari of relying on outdated advisers, defending open grazing, and failing to address insecurity fuelled by herdsmen-related violence.
He also blamed the former president for Nigeria’s debt woes, claiming Buhari left over N30 trillion in backdoor loans and billions in foreign debt that crippled the economy.
According to him, Buhari’s policies like the naira redesign and fuel scarcity were meant to frustrate Tinubu’s 2023 presidential bid from within the APC.
He criticised Buhari’s moral stance as hollow, saying his war on indiscipline became toothless while banditry, corruption, and ethnic killings spread nationwide.
Although he acknowledged Buhari’s rail infrastructure efforts, Omatseye said they were not enough to define a positive legacy. “He promised with pious devotion but didn’t deliver,” he concluded.
