The United States mission in Nigeria announced the closure of its embassy in Abuja and the consulate general in Lagos on Tuesday, July 15.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the decision was made as a sign of respect for the late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

This followed the declaration of a national public holiday by the Nigerian government to honor the former leader, who passed away in London on Sunday after a brief illness.
He is scheduled to be buried in Daura, Katsina State today.

In an announcement on its official X account on Monday, the US Mission confirmed the temporary suspension of all services, including visa appointments set for that day.
The mission also stated that all affected visa appointments would be rescheduled, and normal consular operations would resume on Wednesday, July 16.
