The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has suspended the 2025/2026 Students Union Government (SUG) election following unresolved grievances related to the electoral process.
This was announced in an official press release dated July 14, published on the university’s verified Facebook page. The statement was signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations Officer, Njelita Louis.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the release, the decision was reached during the university’s 357th management meeting. The aim is to provide a platform for addressing complaints and ensuring fairness across the board.
“The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, at its 357th meeting held recently, has directed the suspension of the 2025/2026 Students Union Government Election,” the statement read.
“This decision has been taken to enable the management to address all grievances surrounding the electoral process and ensure that all concerned parties are given a fair hearing.”
The university further urged all stakeholders and relevant authorities to comply with the suspension directive and cooperate with the administration as efforts are made to resolve the underlying issues.
The move comes amid rising tensions and disputes among student groups over the credibility and transparency of the electoral procedures.
