President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, as Chairman of the Nigerian Bank of Agriculture.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the announcement was made in a statement released on Friday, July 18, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Babangida, 53, holds a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland.
He also completed an Executive Programme on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.
His appointment comes as part of a wider reshuffling of leadership across strategic federal agencies, aimed at strengthening institutional efficiency.
In the same announcement, Lydia Kalat Musa from Kaduna State was named Chair of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA).
Jamilu Wada Aliyu from Kano State will now lead the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) as Chairman.
Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa, also from Kano, has been appointed Chairman of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Sanusi Musa, will take up the post of Chairman at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).
The Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) now has a new Director-General in Professor Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto State.
Also appointed is Sanusi Garba Rikiji from Zamfara State, who will lead the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN) as Director-General.
In the power sector, Tomi Somefun from Oyo State has been named Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).
Dr Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria from Kaduna State will serve as Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).
According to the presidency, these appointments are expected to inject new energy into public service and reflect the administration’s push for reform and accountability.
The statement emphasised President Tinubu’s commitment to repositioning government institutions for better policy delivery.
It added that the selection process considered experience, competence, and regional balance to ensure nationwide representation.
The move has sparked conversations about the evolving structure of federal leadership under Tinubu’s government.

Analysts believe the changes could shape policy direction in agriculture, education, water management, and peacebuilding.
Many see the appointment of IBB’s son as symbolic, linking Nigeria’s military past with its democratic future.
