EKO HOT BLOG reports that Onobun, who represents Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made his resignation known in a letter dated Friday and addressed to the PDP Ward 6 Chairman in Esan West Local Government Area.
In the letter, Onobun stated that his decision followed wide consultations with his political associates, constituents, and stakeholders, all of whom reportedly shared his concerns about the party’s deep-rooted challenges.
“It has become evident that the internal crises, leadership instability, and deep-seated divisions that continue to plague the party at all levels are no longer reconcilable,” Onobun stated. He added that these unresolved issues had crippled the PDP’s capacity to deliver on its founding vision and provide quality leadership to Nigerians.
A former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Onobun said he had diligently served the party over the years but had to take a principled step in the interest of his people and their future.
“However, in the interest of my people and the mandate I hold, I have to take a principled stand that allows me to pursue a more effective pathway toward development, unity, and good governance,” he added.
His resignation adds to the growing list of top politicians leaving the PDP in recent months, amid unresolved internal wrangling and factional disputes at both state and national levels.

Although Onobun did not immediately declare his next political move, speculation suggests he may align with another major political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
