EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Thursday shortly after assuming office, Yilwatda dismissed the relevance of opposition coalitions, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that the APC remains firmly in control.
“There is no opposition for now,” he stated confidently. “Zero fears,” he added when asked about the possibility of any opposition coalition overtaking the APC in 2027.
Yilwatda cited the APC’s sweeping victory in the 2023 general elections and its continued success in subsequent by-elections and off-cycle governorship polls as proof of the party’s dominance. According to him, the consistent wins reflect the party’s popularity and strength across the country.
“Why is it that all the by-elections in the last two years were all won by the APC, and in landslide victories in most cases?” he asked rhetorically.
The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs also outlined his priorities as national chairman, stating that he is focused on uniting and expanding the party. He revealed plans to attract more governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition groups into the APC fold.

“We have 23 governors and we are still counting. My job is to unite the party and bring in more. We will do legwork and bring in more,” Yilwatda said.
His comments come amid renewed efforts by opposition parties to build alliances and challenge the APC in future elections.
