As the curtain gradually falls on Kayokayo 2025, the people of Epe Kingdom are eagerly looking forward to the lighting of the seventh and final Etufu torch by the Kosoko Royal Family on Friday, July 25.
Ekohotblog reports that the traditional ceremony, which commemorates the historic arrival of King Kosoko in Epe in 1851, remains the most symbolic highlight of the festival.

On Thursday evening, during the sixth Etufu lighting by the Isale Agoro descendants, Barrister Bayo Okulu, the Coordinator of Kayokayo 2025, spoke passionately on behalf of the Kosoko Royal Family.
He conveyed a special message from the Oloja Eko-Elect, Oba Abiola Kosoko, to the people of Epe.
“Oba Abiola Kosoko extends his warm greetings and deep appreciation to everyone who has played a part in sustaining this historic tradition,” Barrister Okulu announced.
“He is proud of the unity and cultural strength Epe continues to demonstrate through Kayokayo.”
Barrister Okulu emphasized the deep significance of Friday’s event, urging all residents to show support and celebrate together as one people.
“I encourage everyone to come out en masse and join the Kosoko Royal Family as they light the seventh Etufu. This is not just a tradition,it is our identity, our history, and our strength as a kingdom.”
He added that this year’s festival has recorded notable improvements in organization, community participation, and inclusivity.
“We are intentional about making Kayokayo more meaningful and impactful each year. The support from all the wards and the entire Epe community has been overwhelming.”
The final torch to be lit by the descendants of King Kosoko,the very monarch whose journey birthed the Etufu tradition and every other quarter on Saturday’s grand finale, as it promises to be a deeply emotional and historic moment, uniting the past with the present and lighting the way forward for generations to come.
