Gunmen attacked three communities in Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA of Imo State in the early hours of Friday, killing over seven people and injuring several others.

Confirming the incident, Imo Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the attackers were suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has strongly condemned the gruesome attack, describing it as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable,” Okoye said.

He added that tactical police units had been deployed to the area, with CP Danjuma personally leading an intensive manhunt to arrest the culprits.
The police assured residents that the situation was under control and urged the public to remain calm and vigilant.
“No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet,” Okoye added, while also extending condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
