Sir Keir Starmer met U.S. President Donald Trump at the former president’s Turnberry golf resort in southwestern Scotland to discuss a wide range of global issues from the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza to unresolved trade disputes and the war in Ukraine.
Eko Hot Blog reports that while Trump showcased his Scottish golf properties as symbols of U.S.–U.K. goodwill, Starmer prioritised urgent talks urging Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza and calling for a ceasefire in its conflict with Hamas.

Starmer also pressed for further negotiation to eliminate U.S. tariffs on British steel and Scotch whisky, which remain stuck even after the May trade framework. Though recent agreements reduced tariffs on UK car exports and aerospace products, steel duties still hang over key British industries.
On Ukraine, Starmer urged the U.S. to apply pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to return to peace talks within the next 50 days. Trump, meanwhile, maintained a mixed stance criticizing past European recognition of Palestinian statehood, yet supporting increased international aid to Gaza.

The visit concluded with no immediate announcements. Trade officials emphasised that key issues such as tariff relief for British steel remained unresolved, while both leaders acknowledged broader economic cooperation prospects.
