President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate rollout of a free healthcare program for low-income retirees who are part of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). He called this initiative a crucial step towards providing social protection and ensuring dignity for pensioners.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, the President also called for the quick implementation of long-overdue pension increases and a minimum pension guarantee.

This statement is meant to ensure that the free healthcare and pension increases will help those who need it most. These directives were put into place after President Tinubu’s meeting with Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
He further instructed the PenCom DG to urgently resolve the long-standing issue of police pensions, stating that police officers who have served and protected the nation deserve to retire with peace of mind and dignity.

Ms. Oloworaran also briefed the President on efforts to protect the value of pension funds from inflation. She also shared plans to introduce foreign currency contributions, which would allow Nigerians living abroad to participate in the pension system.
The pesident fully endorsed these reforms, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and protecting ordinary Nigerians.
