The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has won a major legal battle against drug trafficking, successfully securing a combined prison term of more than 22 years for a couple in Lagos. The conviction of Ajah Uchenna and his wife, Rosemary, came after they were caught with a large amount of illegal drugs.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the couple’s arrest was a result of a joint effort. They were initially apprehended by the Department of State Security (DSS) with a staggering 277.5 kilograms of skunk.

Following this, the NDLEA conducted a further raid on their home and a storage facility, leading to the recovery of an additional 231 kilograms of the same substance. The court, after considering the evidence, sentenced Rosemary Uchenna to a 17-year prison term.
Her husband, Ajah, received a five-year sentence, along with a separate six-month term with the option of a fine. The judge also ordered the forfeiture of N3.407 million that was seized from the couple.

This case is just one of several recent successes for the NDLEA. The agency also secured a five-year prison sentence for an Indian lady, Neetu Neetu, who was caught importing 11 kilograms of heroin in Kano.
In another case, an Angolan businessman, Mbala Abuba, was sentenced to five years for ingesting and attempting to traffic 120 pellets of cocaine.
The NDLEA’s dedication to its mandate was also highlighted by the recent final forfeiture of a multi-billion Naira 80-room hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, and several vehicles. These properties were being used as a front for the distribution of illegal substances.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), has since commended the agency’s dedicated efforts and expressed gratitude to the judiciary for their firm stance in delivering these judgments, which are crucial to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.
