United States President Donald Trump has announced that he is deploying the National Guard to Washington, D.C. and placing the city under direct federal control.
Eko Hot Blog reports that during a press conference, the President referred to the move as a ‘liberation day’ for the capital, citing an unproven crime spree as the reason.

US President Donald Trump speaks to the press about deploying federal law enforcement agents in Washington
To accomplish this, he used Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act. This move places the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under the direct authority of the federal government.

The National Guard will be on the ground to “re-establish law, order, and public safety,” and they have been given permission to “do their job properly.”
The announcement has sparked protests from local residents who are against the federal takeover of their city.
