- Government operations in Taraba shut down as NLC and TUC begin indefinite strike.
- Unions accuse Biometric Data Capture Committee of irregularities affecting workers.
- All public workers directed to stay away from duty posts across the state.
Government functions across Taraba State have come to a halt following the commencement of an indefinite strike led by the state chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Eko Hot Blog reports that the industrial action, which took effect at midnight on Monday, August 11, 2025, is in protest against alleged irregularities associated with the Biometric Data Capture Committee established by the state government. The strike was ratified during a joint State Executive Council meeting held a day earlier at the NLC Secretariat in Jalingo.

Labour leaders directed all civil servants in the state to withdraw their services immediately, urging full compliance from affiliate unions and the establishment of monitoring committees to enforce the action across ministries and agencies.

According to union sources, the strike was triggered by what they described as systemic flaws and injustices arising from the biometric process, which they claim have negatively impacted workers. Despite issuing an ultimatum and holding dialogues with the state government, labour bodies say their concerns were ignored.
The shutdown has severely disrupted public services across the state, especially in Jalingo, where government offices, schools, and several agencies were under lock and key. Residents reported widespread inactivity in ministries and parastatals.
Union representatives stated that the strike will remain in force until the government addresses their demands and implements necessary reforms within the biometric exercise.
As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the state government regarding the strike or the allegations raised by the unions.
