Mr Timothy Aiyepeku, elder brother of the late journalist, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the family residence in Lokoja on Wednesday that their father had been deeply traumatised by Ayobami’s brutal death.
“On Wednesday, August 6, after rushing out to finalise arrangements for the release of Ayobami’s corpse for burial, I returned home to hear that my father had collapsed and was hospitalised,” Timothy said.
“Although he initially showed signs of recovery, his condition deteriorated and he passed away on Tuesday, August 12,” he added.
Timothy revealed that the family suspects a conspiracy in Ayobami’s death, pointing to the disappearance of both his phone and that of the suspected killer, who allegedly took his own life.

He urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. “We believe the police can do the job. They should put in the needed resources to ensure justice is achieved for my brother,” he appealed.
Despite the pain and loss, Timothy said the family is holding onto their faith, trusting that God will ultimately bring justice and avenge Ayobami’s murder. “We remain hopeful that the authorities will uncover the truth behind Ayobami’s death,” he added.
