EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Commissioner for Information and Communication in the state, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed his passing in a statement released on Monday. He said the late patriarch would be laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
“The Kogi State Government regrets to announce the passing of the father of the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Late Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani Ododo, who returned to his Creator a few hours ago at the age of 83. His Janazah (funeral) will be conducted in accordance with Islamic rites.
We pray to Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. We also pray that Almighty Allah grants the Governor, his family, and the entire Ododo family the strength to bear this loss with fortitude,” the statement read.
The death of the governor’s father comes amid growing political tensions in Kogi State. Recently, the Publicity Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Isaiah Ijele, accused Governor Ododo of mismanaging the state alongside his predecessor and political mentor, Yahaya Bello.
Speaking on Arise Television, Ijele said the governor had “sinned” by failing to pay workers’ salaries, stressing that the payment of salaries should not be considered an achievement but a fundamental responsibility of any government.

The development has drawn reactions across political lines in the state, with critics urging the governor to prioritize workers’ welfare even as he mourns the loss of his father.
