The Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola, Adamawa State, has remanded businessman Mamuda Duma in prison for allegedly having an illicit relationship with a housewife and pressuring her to terminate a three-month pregnancy.
The remand followed a criminal complaint filed directly by the husband, Ahmadu Lawal, who accused Duma of adultery and other criminal conduct.

Lawal, a resident of Yola town in Yola South LGA, claimed that Duma, who lives in Wurojabbe, had been involved in an extramarital affair with his wife since August 2024. He told the court that despite confronting Duma several times, the affair continued.
According to Lawal, Duma pressured his wife into terminating the pregnancy, prompting him to report the matter at the Yola Police headquarters.
He added that the defendant, along with some friends, later tried to persuade him to withdraw the complaint by promising not to contact his wife again.
Lawal stated that Duma continued to call his wife, forcing him to record their conversations as evidence. He argued that the accused’s actions constituted “enticing and abortion,” contrary to sections 315 and 203 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

When the complaint was presented in court following an application by Lawal’s counsel, Ibrahim Hamman Gurin, the defendant denied all allegations.
Presiding Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda ordered that Duma be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to September 1, 2025, for the start of trial.
